Conference calling in an uncomfortably hot room December 16, 2010 .......................................................................
One of the most important aspects to any professional business environment is proper temperature. But what happens when the building that your company occupies suddenly has its air conditioning malfunction right before an important conference call?
One of the most vital things to remember is to stay hydrated. Doctors will tell you that not having enough water while in warm temperatures can cause health issues. Before the call starts, pour yourself a tall glass of water, preferably with ice, if available. That way, if the heat becomes too much during the call, you can take a nice big gulp or even hold the ice water to you head to lower your overall temperature.
There is no reason not to tell those on the call that your building is experiencing some air conditioning issues and that they may need to bear with you. "Sorry to say this, but it seems that we're near 90 degree temperatures in here because the AC is off," you might say. Chances are that those on the call will be able to relate, and may even share their own stories of heat-related issues.
