Conference calling - damage control December 15, 2010 .......................................................................
While we all try to be as appropriate as possible during conference calls, inevitably, a comment will slip out that is undeniably uncalled-for. Often this will happen by accident, and it can be easily fixed without too much effort.
When people get to talking, a variety of subjects can present themselves. The situation can turn nasty when what started as some innocent banter quickly turns into "off-color" humor. If this occurs, most likely you will immediately realize that you have made a huge blunder. As quickly as possible you should say "I apologize Mr. Smith. I got carried away I suppose, in the heat of the moment, you know how that is sometimes. I'm only human."
While no one wants to be in the position of having to make excuses for saying something inappropriate, taking full responsibility is important. A relationship may be saved if you are able to quickly move past what happened and try to build a solid relationship going forward.
