Getting callers to participate in a conference call

How can you keep people interested in a conference call?

Sometimes, it's easier said than done. In a world that's full of visual entertainment - television, flashing ads on the computer and other distracting cues - it can be tough to keep people's attention through a long talk with no visual aspects. However, there are a few tips you can use to keep everybody actively engaged.

One thing some conference call facilitators do to hold the interest of the call's participants is brainstorm. Brainstorming is a great way to ask everybody on the call to participate and allow all ideas to be heard. Ask the participants to take notes on each other's thoughts to keep people from interrupting one another, and do your best to make sure everybody gets a chance to chime in. You can ask callers to solve a specific problem, or you can just ask a general question, such as what the callers think about a certain issue or viewpoint.

You can also get the participants involved with one another. One option is pairing callers up and having the teams get off the main call for a while to discuss something amongst themselves. Afterwards, they can return to the group and share their ideas. Creating smaller groups gives some shier individuals a chance to speak in a more intimate environment, since a group of two or three people is much less intimidating than 50 or 100 strangers.

Conference calls are a great way for the facilitator to make his or her point, but they can also be a place for the callers to express their own ideas.ADNFCR-3767-ID-19933785-ADNFCR
